Was, like, the bedtime story that we were told every day, but I definitely definitely had a clean understanding of the value of a dollar growing up. Like, we all had to work. Yeah. You know, I I my parents never talked about money at the dinner table. Like, I had no idea what my dad made. I had no idea how much money family had. Like, I to this day, I actually don't know. Really? Even now. Even now, like, I I guess I have some sort of idea, but I really have no idea. Right. They they're very, very private, my parents. They're very private, you know, kind of typical conservative, but they put us to work. Like, I when I was a little kid, I was, you know, being paid per stick that I would pick up in the yard. Okay. You know, I they What was the first real job you The first real job I had, I mean, I you know, my summers were working in construction. Okay. I worked for Testa Building and Remodeling in Andover And North Andover Massachusetts. And were you, like, physically doing That was labor. That was a contractor's labor. So demolition, roofing, eighty pound bags, shingles on my shoulders, all of that stuff really made me work hard in school is so hard. You're like, I'm never doing this again. No. So but you, like, you really when you get that paycheck from doing manual you you remember every dollar Yeah. Because you count those minutes, right, when it when it hurts. But my parents really, you know, they made it a thing for me where there was no allowance We never had an allowance, an allowance to my parents. You got allowed to live in the house. Exactly. There's no allowance, and I I won't have an allowance with with my kids either. But they said, whatever you want, you can have. If you buy it yourself. So, like, I have a core memory of then I guess I was, you know, getting into junior high school and who were really liking TV and movies and wanting to make my own and wanting my own video camera. And they were like, great. Like, a mean girl's mom. Yeah. 100%. They're like, go buy 1. It's just like, Okay. Great. What do I do? So I started a a a wood splitting company where we would cut wood and we would sell off the cords of lumber between my little brother and I. It was a total disaster. It was the hardest thing ever. I never should

Can appreciate that this journey that I'm you're giving so much hope and meaning to people because they're like, this girl is a badass. Like, she's doing, like, a multi like, you're like Taylor Swift of the of the money world. You know? Like, you're going my gosh. That's so generous. Like, you're going on tour. Like, people are at home, Vivienne. They're like in their sweats. They're like, I just wanna, you know, sit here and watch rerun of Friends or, like, I don't know, whatever. And you're taking the show on the road. Right? Like, you're not you you're entertaining people from home that they can scroll, but then they can see you in real purse like, in real life. And, like, if like, when people, like, look up to you, they're they're gonna wanna meet you. They're gonna want a piece of you in person. So they're gonna be so grateful. So, like, recognizing envisioning the best possible outcome. You're gonna be signing books, I imagine. Yeah. Are you gonna be yeah. So those I know it's gonna be exhausting so I'm gonna get to the exhaustion, but just knowing, envisioning the best possible outcome. So think of, like, your perfect day, if you have such an option. Like so I would say, like, having the end in mind and then working backwards to be like, what was my per perfect day? Do I have time for a great cup of coffee by myself in the morning? So this is where I want the rest to come in, and I just, it came it was in the New York Times yesterday. I talked about oasis moments that New York Times has a 6 day energy challenge, how to get more energy. And, I helped them kick it off by talking about oasis moments, which are basically just 5 minutes, and it can be anywhere. Like, you could have music, but you don't have to. But it's the idea of just getting very intentional with your time, shutting the world out. And this part didn't make it into the New York Times because they wanted to keep it briefer, but I in that exercise that I had originally given them, it was like, okay. See yourself, close your eyes, envision a problem, and be very specific. How does the problem make you feel? Tell me, like, where do you feel it in your chest? Are you clenching your jaw, shoulders? Relax, all of that. And then envision a path to the outcome. And imagine yourself and and maybe if you want, when you're done, do this you know, you have 5 minutes later in the day. Yeah. Close your eyes and envision this path and tell me what this path looks like. Is it straight? Does it twist?

Camera, like, on the ceiling somewhere. And some guy, I was just, like, in his way, and he straight up, like, picked me up and just moved me. I was like, okay. Thanks, sir. So it was that type of vibe. And, like, I remember guys, they would have, like, a bad day. And when I say guys, like, it was truly guys. I'll never forget how small the women's bathroom was. It looked like a closet. And, you know, like, when we go to a theater or something, like, the women's bathroom is really big usually. Yeah. Yeah. This was not. You could tell, like, how few women were there by, like, the size of the bathroom. Yeah. There would be guys that would be, like, throwing money. They have a good day or a bad day. And so it was really cinematic that way, and it was so scary. I used to wear legit, maxi pads under my armpits because I was so nervous every single day. Really? But it was the best it was like the school of hard knocks. Like, I it was really embarrassed for a long time that I didn't get my MBA and all of this stuff. And, like, I didn't study finance in school. And, like, I knew more about what it was like to be poor than it was like to be rich at the time. Like, I was an expert in that. Yeah. But, you know, I have come to just own that instead of being so scared that somebody's gonna call me out of you know, for it. And then just say, like, hey, I didn't get my MBA or I didn't study finance, but, like, I went to this crazy ass school of hard knocks, and that's where I learned. I absolutely love that. I feel like I have the next generation version of your story where it's, like, you show up to work and it's, like, 40 dudes, and you're, like, how come no one looks like me? Yeah. So very much can relate to that. And now a word from our sponsors at Betterment. Do you want your money to dream big? Do you want your money to be a total self starter? Are you annoyed that your money doesn't work hard enough? Don't worry. Betterment is here to help. Betterment is the automated investing and savings app that makes your money hustle. Today by an expert in the space. She's a social media fitness entrepreneur and instructional YouTuber, CEO of Popflex Activewear, and mastermind behind Blogilates. Everyone, please welcome Cassie Ho. Hi. Welcome. Thank you so much for coming on the podcast. It's so good to see you again. For everybody listening, I met Cassie in person for the first time at South by Southwest, and she looked incredible in this cute little jean jumpsuit. And I just could not put my finger on how I knew her and why I recognized her for so long because normally I see her online in her activewear showing us her designs. And Cassie, you actually have a pretty roundabout story of how you got into the fitness industry. So let's start from the beginning. Where'd you grow up? What were you like as a kid? What was your family like? Were you super athletic? Oh my gosh. Before I get into that, though, I I remember walking through the halls at South by Southwest, and I I looked at you too, and I think you both just, like, looked at each other. And I was like, wait. And then, like, I was, like, walking forward and then back, and I looked at you again, and we're still looking at each other. So I'm glad, like, you said something because I was like, where is she from? Because I follow you too on TikTok, like, obviously. Yeah. The the icon top was just, like, a little too prolonged. A little there. Oh my gosh. Anyway, wow. This this could become a very long story. But so you want me to start from, like, where I grew up and everything? Yeah. That whole thing okay. Were you, like, a super athletic kid? Because you're Oh. I feel like I think of you and you're, like, super athletic and, like, health and wellness. Oh my god. No. So okay. So I'm, I grew up in Southern California. My parents are both, Vietnamese immigrants. They came over in the seventies. My mom was a boat person and everything, and I'm telling this because it will relate to the way I was raised. But my dad taught me how to play tennis at a very young age, like 6 years old. And I ended up becoming very good only because I was coached so hard. And so I never actually enjoyed the sport, though, because for me, I don't like being competitive in sports. Like, just all the

RICH AF: The Winning Money Mindset that Will Change Your Life
Wed Dec 27 2023
What's up, besties? Welcome back to Net Worth and Chill with me, your host, Vivian Tu, and this is the very last episode of 2023. And I am so grateful that you've stuck by me and this podcast over the past year. And if you follow me on social media or anywhere else, it's abundantly clear I can't stop talking about one thing, and that is the launch of my book. It came out yesterday. It's called Rich AF, The Winning Money Mindset That Will Change Your Life. And, honestly, this has been the craziest, biggest labor of love I've ever put myself into, and I am so, so excited for everyone out there to read it, to listen to it, just to get their hands on it, and to really start learning more about their financial journey. The ultimate goal of the book is that you'd be able to pick it up and read it from page 1 to 300 and something and feel more confident, more capable, and just more ready to take on your own financial journey. So I thought what better way to kick off the very last episode and wrap up the year than to actually read to you a couple pages from the very first chapter just to give you a little taste. Yes. This is similar to what the audio book would sound like in case you haven't ordered a copy of the book yet. You can go to richafdot me. Yes, the URL is a manifestation, and get a copy of the hardcover book. You can get an ebook. You can get a signed copy. You can get the audiobook. You can get the international version. You can get literally any sort of copy of this book that you want. I would greatly appreciate your support, and you can also review it anywhere and give your honest opinion about what you think. That'd be so, so helpful for me, but let me get into it. I'm just gonna read the first 10 pages, and hopefully, you enjoy it. Okay. Here we go. Chapter 1, Education for This Era, Why This Book IS For You. A while back, I was spending a long weekend in the Hamptons with some friends.
